The Meat: Lovecraft’s mythos might have been real because he was into remote viewing, SRI demonstrated evidence of THAT being real, and the Bloop happened in the South Pacific in an area similar to Lovecraft’s fictional sunken city.

H.P. Lovecraft, for all his faults as a human being, was a hell of a writer and created some of the most awesome and influential fiction of all time. He was also a huge misfit and weirdo and as such had a stereotypical interest in the occult.
I’ve heard tales of his dives into rituals and scrying with his friends for years. My pet hypothesis is that his mental projections into the great unknown were fruitful, and instead of writing books strictly from his imagination, he wrote stories based upon what he actually witnessed.
The Stanford Research Institute had published evidence of this kind of altered brain activity and ESP abilities working for the US Federal Government for years. Fringe though that may seem at this point.
In 1997 scientists the world over detected “The Bloop”, a giant sound that reverberated across the oceans but originated in the South Pacific, in an area fairly close to the coordinates where Lovecraft described his “fictional” sunken city. R’lyeh, where Dead Cthulhu Waits Dreaming.
While most scientists now attribute this Bloop to being an undersea ice-quake caused by global warming leading to massive glaciers breaking apart, there is a small subset of people who say that the sounds aren’t such a quake at all, but are in fact consistent with the sounds made by giant sea creatures such as whales, except at a 1,000 times the magnitude.
Maybe the type of scream something huge would make when being abruptly awoken…?
